Diary studies
Mike Kuniavsky provides an introduction to diary studies in his book Observing the User Experience (Chapter 12 in the 1st edition, or Chapter 10 in the 2nd edition). This book provides a good overview of many different customer research methods, and is one I frequently recommend.
