Automating biometric data redaction: Coordinating expertise across unrelated subject domains

I'm excited to finally share my work on biometric data redaction in two days at Rosenfeld’s Designing with AI conference.

I've spent a lot of my career solving weird research problems that are hard to figure out because they require wrangling and coordinating expertise across unrelated subject domains.

Biometric data redaction is one of these problems. Product teams are being told they can't keep research recordings they need because of privacy laws. This is a solvable problem, but the solution we identified requires legal, audio and video editing, and 3D art domain knowledge in addition to research know-how.

Coming up with the idea was just the tip of the iceberg. Much of the work involved evaluating tools and licensing terms, getting the right kind of legal agreements in place, and a whole lot of trial and error with video editing and character creation workflows.

(This kind of problem solving is a big part of my consulting work today. If you're facing a complex research issue that spans multiple domains, let's talk!)

This was not a solo effort. I'm deeply indebted to my incredible technical collaborator Vitorio Miliano, my legal counsel Darin Siefkes, the laser cutting experts at MakeATX (Austin, TX) who agreed to be in my demo, a very strong speaker preparation program at Rosenfeld Media, and so many others. Thank you all.

If you're attending the Designing with AI conference, I'd love to hear from you! And if you're not, stay tuned–there's more to come.
