Why I teach the latest AI models in my UX research workshops

In my “AI for UX Researchers” workshop, you work directly with current AI models–which is different from other AI+research workshops.

I update all my exercises and tools to recent, relevant AI models before every new workshop run. (So you can imagine how delighted I was that OpenAI and Anthropic both released new models yesterday, just after I completed my workshop tests with Claude Sonnet 4.5 and GPT-5.2. 😅)

Updating the workshop does require more work, but here’s why I think it’s worth doing:

Teaching general principles only gets you so far when you’re working with tools that change as rapidly as AI. I see my workshops as less about teaching static best practices, and more about teaching researchers how to think about AI–and that starts with learning how to experiment with the latest models and assess the quality of their output.
